Migratory Birds Convention Act (Web) - provides protection for migratory birds and their habitat as they travel between countires during the different stages of their life cycle.
Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act (WAPPRIITA) (Web) - protects species by controlling the transport of international and interprovincial trade or transport of wild animals and plants.
National - Canada
Fisheries Act (Web) - administered by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Fisheries Act protects fish and fish habitat in Canadian freshwater and marine commercial and recreational fisheries.
Canada National Parks Act (Web) - The Canadian National Parks Act provides the legislative backing for maintaining and restoring the ecological integrity of significant natural areas in Canada. Under this Act areas are protected for the benefit, education and enjoyment of the public.
Canada Wildlife Act (Web) - The Canadain Wildlife Act protects habitat by providing the Minister with the authority to designate National Wildlife Areas, Marine Protected Areas, and the ability to acquire land for the means of wildlife research, conservation and interpretation.
Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) (Web) - entering into force in 2000, The Canadian Environmental Protection Act is aimed at polluation prevetion and the protection of the environment and human health, with the goal of promoting sustainable development. Pollution prevention benefits species at risk and provides additional protection of their habitats.
Species at Risk Act (SARA) (Web) - SARA aims to protect and conserve wildlife that is at risk in Canada and their habitats. SARA protects species from further decline, guides recovery processes, and promotes the protection of critical and recovery habitats.
The Accord for the Protection of Species at Risk (Web) -the Accord is a commitment by federal, provincial and territorial government departments to designate and protect speices at risk and to develop recovery plans for those species. The signing of the Accord recognized the need for jursidictions to work cooperatively to effectively protect species at risk in Canada.
Newfoundland and Labrador Endangered Species Act(Web) - Enacted in 2001, the Newfoundland and Labrador Endangered Species Act protects species at risk, guides recovery, preserves critical and recovery habitat and aims to prevent any additional species from becoming at risk.
Newfoundland and Labrador Policy Regarding Conservation of Species at Risk (Web) - The policy is based on the philosophy that all species have the right to exist, and should not become at risk owning to human activities.
