Species at Risk Stewardship & Education

Stewardship and education are effective tools in promoting the protection of species at risk and engaging individuals in conservation and recovery efforts. In Newfoundland & Labrador, many groups and organizations are dedicated to species at risk stewardship and education, and a provincial Species at Risk Stewardship and Education Working Group provides a forum for these dedicated stewards to share their ideas and stories. Wetlands Stewardship

Much of the wetlands stewardship activity underway in Newfoundland & Labrador is carried out through the Eastern Habitat Joint Venture (EHJV) Program. Many municipalities have committed to protecting and enhancing wetlands in their area by signing goodwill agreements with the provincial Department of Environment & Conservation.

A new Municipal Wetland Stewardship Agreement was recently signed in Hawke's Bay, and the Town of St. Anthony just signed the province's first Coastal Stewardship Agreement.
